Message From the Minister
Psalm 23: 2-3 “He makes me lie down in green pastures; he leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul.”
In the cool of the evening air I took our dogs for a walk along the Pitt Meadow’s dykes. This has been a favourite walk of ours for a few years now as each time we go there we marvel at the changing scene and the beauty. Last night it was particularly beautiful. After the heat of the last few days a cool breeze soothed my skin and green grass waved gently as the river slowly went by. A beaver made a sudden splash with his tail when he was surprised by a canoe. A heron balanced precariously at the top of a tree, looking like a weathervane perched up high
The words of the 23rd Psalm came to mind on this summer evening as the moment of peace and stillness did indeed restore my soul. Summertime is a wonderful time to slow down a little bit as the hot days make us feel a little lazy and as our usual activities take a break. God wants us to experience the health and wholeness that comes from Sabbath rest, an oasis of sacred time within the business of our lives. Even if we’re not able to find a whole day to give ourselves rest – even an hour of quiet can restore our souls!
I pray that this summer will include times of rest for us all, as the One who creates us also works to re-create us in this season.
Peace be with you.
